Greetings, lovely humans and robots!
We’ll get to part 2 of Ensign Rowe River’s story in the next newsletter (catch up on part 1). My little secret is that when I sent out my last email newsletter, I happened to be on my way out of town on vacation! I was in Savannah, GA that morning. It was a reasonable halfway point between my home in Maryland and Miami where I spent two days before boarding Star Trek The Cruise VIII!
Let’s take care of the “I’m an Indie Author and need to promote myself and others” before we get into it.
Which means, please check out my books (if you haven’t yet):

I participate in Group Promos where us Indie’s are helping to share the love for each other. Here are the ones I’m in that you should definitely check out and see what other stories and authors you might enjoy!
Now I can share a little bit about my vacation!
If you’ve been reading my newsletter for a while, you might remember that I went on Star Trek The Cruise VII this time last year. I wrote about it here:
https://beyondthedroid.substack.com/p/alien-in-aruba-soursop-sojourn
…and the timing was such that I was able to write a flash fiction piece in my spare time and get it out right away. So sorry I couldn’t make that happen this time! Although I will say that I came away with A LOT of writing inspiration that will find it’s way into a new novel someday. Part of that is thanks to Robin Curtis (who played Saavik in Star Trek III and IV) and her reading: “A Good Girl: The Sexual Odyssey of a 68-Year-Old Woman.” And part of that was visiting Mayan Cacao Company in Cozumel and a bird sanctuary/habitat in Costa Maya. I took copious notes for these future projects because of course, I’m working hard to finish the sequel to Lunar Logic!
The overall cruise was a very different experience than last year because I was travelling with friends and had a lot more friends on the ship before I even stepped aboard.
Let’s get on to the pictures… I took nearly 1400 of them, so finding the handful to show y’all was a challenge! For reference, I will refer to pictures like this:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
Group 1: This was all pre-cruise. As I mentioned above, we went to Savannah, GA for a night and got out and about and walked a little before heading down to Miami. Pics 1 and 4 were Savannah and the rest Miami. As an art lover, there was a lot to love in both places!
Group 2: These were from the first few days on the ship. Yes, that’s a bunch of us ladies wearing goatees in pic #1! It was “Mirror, Mirror” theme night and if you’re familiar with the classic Trek episode of the same name where they are in an alternate “evil” universe, then you might remember that one of the iconic things about that episode was seeing Spock with a goatee. Our inspiration! Pic #2 is from this year’s craft swap. I made a sticker with my AJ character and some shrinky-dink charms. Yes, shrinky-dinks are still a thing!
Most of the rest of this grouping are images from around the ship. But I do want to call attention to the center image… that is a poster board that we were having many of the celebs sign. This board will be auctioned off at Trek Long Island at the end of May to raise money for Library of the Kind. We managed to get Kate Mulgrew, Jonathan Frakes, and most of the other celebs on board to sign it!
Group 3: These were from two of our port days when I left the ship. Our 3rd port day was at Belize and I stayed on board (and walked THE ENTIRE ship, mostly to see ALL the door decorations).
Group 4: And of course… photo ops!! Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway!), Roxann Dawson (B’Elanna Torres… Chief Engineer from Star Trek: Voyager… which means my collection of Star Fleet engineers is nearly complete!), Jonathan Frakes (Commander/Captain Riker), and Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine).
Once again, I am signed up for next year’s Star Trek The Cruise IX and am already counting down the days!
But first… or last… depending on how you look at it, what really made this cruise extra special was this group of people:
(and some others who are not pictured.)
Don’t forget to listen, too!
My co-hosts and I took at BIG Sci-Fi podcast talked with the super fun an energetic Tracee Cocco. She is an actress, stunt woman, and model, and known for playing Lr. Jae in Star Trek: TNG and the movies. Getting to know her was a blast!

What’s next?
I will write the conclusion to the Ensign Rowe story that we’re in the middle of for the next email newsletter. Promise. Beyond that, of course it’s back to work on the Lunar Logic sequel for me, while scribbling notes for all the other projects I want to write.
In the mean time, I appreciate y’alls support in all forms. Here’s one easy way to show your continued support: Are you on Facebook? Are you in any bookclub-type groups like Science Fiction and Fantasy Books Fans or International Sci fi and Fantasy Book Club? Well, often in these groups there are posts that start out “I’m looking for my next read…” and the poster specifies their criteria. If you see these, and the criteria seems to meet what I’ve written, please suggest my books! (And feel free to tag me as well.) Or, just post about my books there — it’s another version of giving a review. (And of course, if you have other Indie author favorites, please do the same thing for them!)
And here’s my final bonus picture from the trip:
I know my bonus pics are usually of me, but this time I chose one of Kate Mulgrew while she was on stage. I was so awestruck by her presence on stage. She inspired me and my leadership style as Captain Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager, and she continues to inspire me as an amazing woman.
All always, thanks for reading all of my ramblings, and staring at my art. I hope you’re enjoying it all! Remember you can reply anytime with questions/comments/feedback!
Until next time… be kind, be well!

That was such a wonderful cruise. Too short but inspiring. Also counting down the days to the next one.
OMG that looks like a crazy good time!
