Have you read Delta-V by Daniel Suarez? It’s a near future novel on asteroid mining and setting up an economy in space. There’s long and interesting sections dealing with space law and one of the characters is a space lawyer. You might want to check out Delta-V and the sequel, Critical Mass to see how another author dealt with space law. Daniel Suarez is always deep into research so his handling of legal issues in space are bound to be accurate.
I know of the book (it's in my TBR list), but haven't read it yet. Hmm... so, the only problem with reading it right now then would be it could seriously demotivate me! I have been thwarted before when I read something that had some similarity to something that I was writing and it was good and I gave up on my stuff....
I had the same situation for my current book, Electromagnetic Assault, where my main characters are elite military members who all have neurotech implants to communicate wordlessly and control their tech. Douglas E. Richards wrote a series of books where the main character had similar implants. I waited until I had a couple of drafts on my book before I read Richards' book. We actually dealt with this capability quite differently and while Richards is an excellent author, I was quite happy with what I wrote. Good luck with whatever you decide but write the book!
